Solarus

Solarus is an innovator, leading the efforts to keep Central Wisconsin connected to the rest of the world. The company started over 115 years ago offering phone service. As technology evolves, Solarus continues to be a leader in innovation locally and nationally.

The business began in 1896 as Wood County Telephone Company. First offering local phone service because residents wanted a local company that offered affordable service. As technology advanced, so did the phone company.  Long distance calling service was added, then internet access, hosted telephone systems, and fiber.  In 2006, Wood County Telephone Company rebranded itself as Solarus to reflect its full telecommunication services and ability to serve over six Central Wisconsin counties.

Now, Solarus is the largest, independent telephone service provider in Wisconsin and the 53rd largest telecommunications provider in the country.

When Solarus came to the Wausau area, the Chamber of Commerce welcomed them with open arms. Solarus was able to offer residents and businesses another option for their internet and telephone needs. The Chamber has provided Solarus with great networking opportunities such as the annual golf outing, business expo and other special events. Solarus has also partnered with the Chamber, providing web hosting for the Chamber’s web site and their DSL connection. That partnership continues to be important.

Being involved with the communities you serve and live in is what Solarus is all about.  Solarus shares the same mission commitment as the Chamber, “to enhance our community by building business success.”  Solarus provides global connections with local commitment; we are proud to be a part of central Wisconsin.
